Suwanee High School Football 2012 Regular Season Ends

North Gwinnett travels to Peachtree Ridge, and Collins Hill tackles Mill Creek. Playoffs are in the future for some of them.

It will be all about playoff seedings and bragging rights Friday (November 9) as Suwanee teams end the 2012 football regular season. North Gwinnett travels to the Lions Den to take on Peachtree Ridge, and Collins Hill visits Mill Creek. Norcross already has clinched the 7-AAAAAA title, ending North's three-year run, and so the Devils earn the top seed. North (6-1 in the region) also has sewn up a playoff spot and the No. 2 seed, because of its wins over Collins Hill and Mill Creek (both 5-2 in the region). So that Collins Hill-Mill Creek game will be to determine the region's final two spots before playoffs begin next weekend. Peachtree Ridge (4-3 in the region) can't get in even with an upset of North, because its losses all were to teams…

North Gwinnett Advances in AAAAAA Ranking

The Bulldogs face Suwanee rival Peachtree Ridge on Friday in the regular season finale.

With one week remaining in the 2012 regular season, the North Gwinnett Bulldogs are again among the state's elite high school teams. The Bulldogs are No. 5 in the latest statewide AAAAAA ranking by Georgia High School Football Daily. North has been in the top 10 all season. Its only setback was in September to Norcross, the Region 7-AAAAAA champion. Though the Bulldogs had their three-year region title run broken, they still appear headed for the playoffs with a 6-1 region record. Obama Beats Romney -- at Peachtree Ridge High

The Suwanee high school conducts a mock election.

Checking in on the youth vote, or a least a portion thereof in Suwanee ... Seems that the Social Studies department at Peachtree Ridge High conducted a mock election last week (October 29-30), according to the school newsletter. The result? "With 1,335 votes being cast (in 57 different classes), President Obama emerged as our Mock Election winner, receiving over 56 percent of the vote.  Mitt Romney received just over 42%," the newsletter read. -- Are you surprised that Peachtree Ridge students "voted" for Obama? North Gwinnett Survives; Norcross Clinches 7-AAAAAA Title

Catching up with Suwanee high school football action.

North Gwinnett defeated Collins Hill, and Norcross rolled over Peachtree Ridge in Suwanee high school football action Friday (October 26). NORTH GWINNETT 38, COLLINS HILL 24: The host Eagles (5-3, 4-2) led at halftime, but the Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1) rallied with 17 straight points. QB Michael Haynes had 256 yards passing for the Bulldogs, who clinched the No. 2 spot in 7-AAAAA. NORCROSS 36, PEACHTREE RIDGE 3: The unbeaten Blue Devils (9-0, 7-0) clinched the Region 7-AAAAAA title, breaking North Gwinnett's three-year run. Joseph Wilber had three TD passes, two to running back Alvin Kamara. Peachtree Ridge is now 3-5, 3-3. North Gwinnett, Collins Hill Projected for Football Playoffs (VIDEO)

The Bulldogs of Suwanee have a homecomiing game Friday.

It's a special weekend for high school football in Suwanee. And as the 2012 season winds down, it's looking like the city will have multiple playoff participants again. North Gwinnett (6-1, 3-1) will have its homecoming game Friday (Oct. 19) in Suwanee, as it hosts Habersham Central. -- How do you think the AAAAAA playoffs will shake out? Peachtree Ridge Educator a GCPS Teacher of Year Finalist

Six teachers are in the running. The award will be given on Nov. 1.

Dean Landers, a teacher at Peachtree Ridge High in Suwanee, is among the finalists for 2013 Teacher of the Year for Gwinnett County schools. Landers and five other Gwinnett educators have made it to the final round of competition. The winner will be named Thursday, Nov. 1, at ceremonies (6:30 p.m.) at the Gwinnett Center, according to a GCPS news release. Landers teaches physics to juniors and seniors at Peachtree Ridge. The other finalists are Erica Leach, Walnut Grove Elementary; Deborah Johnson, Berkmar Middle; Celisa Edwards, Dacula Middle; Heidi Mikulecky of Richards Middle; and Jay Nebel of Norcross High. North Gwinnett, P-Ridge Win; Collins Hill Falls to Norcross

Collins Hill suffered its first region loss, and North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge continued winning in Suwanee high school football action Friday (Oct. 12). NORCROSS 35, COLLINS HILL 23: The visiting Blue Devils (7-0, 5-0) stayed unbeaten in Region 7-AAAAAA, behind a strong performance from running back Alvin Kamara. He had 300 yards rushing, including TD runs of 80 and 61 yards in the first half. The Eagles (4-2, 3-1) had won four straight. NEXT WEEK: at Meadowcreek. Suwanee Educators in Gwinnett Teacher of Year Semifinals

The winners in high school, middle school and elementary school divisions will be named Nov. 1.

Teachers from two Suwanee high schools are among those who have reached the semfinals of the Gwinnett schools' 2013 Teacher of the Year competition. McCall Grosso of North Gwinnett High and Dean Landers of Peachtree Ridge High are among five semifinalists for the honor. Grosso teaches language arts (10th grade), and Landers teaches physics (11th and 12th grades). -- Who should be the Gwinnett Teacher of the Year? Tell us in the comments below. North Gwinnett, Collins Hill Win

Collins Hill and North Gwinnett claimed important Region 7-AAAAAA football victories Friday (Oct. 5). COLLINS HILL 41, PEACHTREE RIDGE 10: Eagles QB Brett Sheehan was 21 of 28 passing for 301 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles scored 20 points in the third quarter to remain unbeaten in the region. Next Friday, Collins Hill (4-1, 3-0) hosts unbeaten Norcross. "This is such a big rivalry game," Collins Hill running back Tyler Henderson told the Gwinnett Daily Post.
