Gwinnett Group Teams Up on Pool Safety Effort

Safe Kids Gwinnett is partnering with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Pool Safely campaign and the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services Department to make pool safety a priority.

Safe Kids Gwinnett is teaming up with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s "Pool Safety" campaign and the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services Department to make pool safety a priority by advocating simple water safety steps. “Our Pool Safely campaign is part of a national conversation with parents and children as well as pool owners and operators about the simple safety steps they can take to protect themselves and their families in and around pools and spas,” Safe Kids Gwinnett Coordinator Tania Diaz said in a press release. “These incidents are preventable, so our mission is to change the way families think and act about pool and spa safety.”   In a national study of drowning-related incidents, a parent or caregiver …

Have Fun, But Be Safe at the Pool This Summer

After a Gwinnett County girl got stuck in a pool's vacuum system, here are some tips to keep everyone safe while still having a good time.

It may not officially be here yet, but the summer heat is in full swing with several days of temperatures in the 90s. So parents are looking for ways to help their children to beat the heat, and that includes taking a dip in the pool. While swimming is always fun, it also poses a number of dangers. Just this week, an 8-year-old girl in unincorporated Gwinnett County got her arm stuck in a pool’s vacuum line. The Gwinnett County Fire Department had to come to her rescue.  “Our responding personnel did a really good job. They jumped into the pool because it was in the six foot deep section, so she couldn’t really stand there,” said Gwinnett County Fire Lt. Eric Eberly.
