The city recently paid $1.25 million to buy a blighted hotel in the Gateway area near I-85. This comes less than a year after it opened a new police substation on what had been a lot holding a shuttered gas station. Another restaurant closes: Red Brick Oven, which featured foods with a Mediterranean flair, became the latest eatery to close its doors, citing a leasing dispute. Another restaurant to open: All is not lost for area restaurants. Friends Sports Grill, which already has a popular site in Dacula, has received its alcohol license from the city. Briscoe Field in Gwinnett Could Be Affected by U.S. Sequester Budget Cuts

The control tower is among those on an FAA closure list.

Should the massive U.S. sequester budget cuts become reality, Briscoe Field in Gwinnett could be affected. The control tower at the county-owned Lawrenceville facility is among more than 100 federal air traffic control operations that could be affected by the looming cuts, according to a Gwinnett spokesperson. The control tower at Briscoe Field is operated by the Federal Aviation Administration. And FAA Director Ray LaHood informed Gwinnett Authorities on Friday that the tower could be closed, county spokesperson Joe Sorenson said Monday. However, Briscoe Field would remain open and operating even if the tower were closed, Sorenson said.
