More New Restaurants Planned for Suwanee

The former Porto Bello is slated to change, according to city documents.

Suwanee, get ready for still more new restaurants. An eatery called Segreto plans to open in the former Porto Bello location, and the Los Cabos Mex Mex Grill is eyeing a location on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, according to alcoholic beverage applications with the City of Suwanee. City staff has recommended approval of the licenses, and they could come up for a vote as soon as the May City Council meeting. Segreto licensees would be Robert E. Mason and Wanda D. Mason, who have acquired the Porto Bello site on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. Los Cabos would be at 360 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Suite 101-B, and the licensee would be Fernando Leon. Uptown Grille Now Open in Suwanee

The site in Town Center plans special events, including a ribbon cutting.

Finally, the Uptown Grille is open in Suwanee. Karim Rahuddin, a member of the new ownership group, said Thursday (April 25) via telephone that the new eatery in Town Center is serving customers. It recently obtained its alcoholic beverage license and passed permitting regulations. He added that live music will be part of the mix at the new restaurant, which is in the site that was vacated by Olde Towne Tavern & Grille in December. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is in the works. Uptown Grille plans to offer an upscale menu, a la the Cheesecake Factory. This adds to the mix of new eateries in the Town Center area. My family and I recently went to dinner at Uptown grill and we had a great experience. Our server Stephen was very helpful with all of our questions with the menu and his suggestion of the Crab Crusted Tilapia was fantastic. It was a busy night and our food came out within a reasonable time so we were very happy. I would reccomend Uptown to anyone who wants great food for a good price   more ›

Uptown Grille Opening May Be Delayed

A recent restaurant health inspection raises questions about the Town Center eatery.

The targeted April 15 rollout of the Uptown Grille in Suwanee Town Center may not come off. A recent restaurant health inspection by the Gwinnett Health Department noted several violations, and carried an "N/A" score. Typically, that is a rating given to establishments with new or changing ownership. The inspection, which was conducted April 8, carried the following notation: "NOT OK TO PERMIT- all violations must be corrected prior to re-inspection." Officials with the Gwinnett Health Department could not be reached for comment. Also, Uptown Grille officials could not be reached. Suwanee May Update Policy on LED Lights

Safety and aesthetic reasons prompt the consideration.

The growing popularity of LED lighting is prompting Suwanee officials to consider updating their policy. Planning Director Josh Campbell said Thursday at a City Council workshop that LED lighting is "great," but the city feels like its law needs to be updated to aid motorists and to preserve the integrity of current sign rules. He noted that LED lighting is energy efficient and creates much less light pollution. Seems that some businesses in Suwanee are using the strips as signs per se, and that is what officials want to stop. Also, the lights sometimes can be a hazard to motorists. "We're trying to manage the use" of LED lights, City Manager Marty Allen said. "They'll be on every sign in three years." Officials already have noted more …
