Area malls will open at or near midnight Thanksgiving for holiday shoppers.
Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth and other malls near Suwanee will give shoppers plenty of time to find items on their holiday gift lists. Gwinnett Place will open at midnight Thanksgiving (Nov. 22) and remain open continuously until 10 p.m. on Black Friday (Nov. 23). Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville will open its doors to shoppers on Thanksgiving night at 11:30 p.m. so customers can get in place for when stores open at midnight. The mall, formerly called Discover Mills, will stay open for shopping until Friday at 10 p.m. Then re-open Saturday, Nov. 24, at 9 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. On Sunday, the mall's hours are 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Mall of Georgia in Buford will open at midnight Thursday and stay open until 10 p.m. Friday. Old Town Village sits more than half empty. Share your ideas.
It's still something of a familiar sight in Suwanee: vacant commercial real estate space. A strip mall on Scales Road in Suwanee, near McGinnis Ferry Road and on the edge of Old Town, sits more than half-empty. Four of the seven suites are vacant, with one of the filled ones occupied by a church. Subway and Cooley's Pizza are the only commercial businesses currently operating in the Old Town Village center. Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 in 2012, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Suwanee.
