Gwinnett Church Begins Building New Facility Near Suwanee

The 50-acre site is planned for opening in 2014.

A Gwinnett megachurch has begun moving dirt near Suwanee for a large new worship facility. Construction crews began clearing a 50-acre site on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near West Price Road earlier in April. And Gwinnett Church pastor Jeff Henderson told followers in a video that the new church should be completed in 2014. Gwinnett Church, which is an offshoot of North Point Ministries in Alpharetta, currently meets at Cross Pointe Church in Duluth. Plans first were put in place for the new building in 2011. The tract in Sugar Hill reportedly cost $8.7 million. "March of next year -- which typically means June," pastor Jeff Henderson told followers in a video about an opening date. Wedding Chapel Close to Completion Near Suwanee

Ashton Gardens expects to hold its first wedding in March.

That high-end wedding facility near Suwanee is nearing completion, and it plans to hold ceremonies there as soon as March. Ashton Gardens, which also has facilities in Houston and Dallas, began construction at the site on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Sugar Hill in spring 2012. It's near West Price Road and North Gwinnett Middle School. According to the website, "Our experienced event coordinators will assist in the planning of every detail of your ceremony & wedding reception & our award-winning culinary team makes every one of our original recipes from scratch using only the highest quality and freshest products available." Sugar Hill Church's Christmas Concert Is Three Days, Two Sites in 2012

The Latter-day Saints choir will perform in Suwanee twice and in Lilburn this holiday season.

The popular Christmas concert given by the Sugar Hill Latter-day Saints choir will cover three days and two Gwinnett sites in 2012, according to a news release. The eighth annual event will be held December 8-9 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Church, at 4833 Suwanee Dam Road, near North Gwinnett High. Also, the choir will perform December 16 in Lilburn, at the LDS multipurpose building located at 1150 Cole Drive near Parkview High School. Sugar Hill Sets Grand Opening for New City Hall

The structure will be dedicated on January 13, 2013.

That new City Hall building going up in Sugar Hill is all but done, and it will have a formal dedication soon. The city has scheduled grand opening ceremonies for Sunday, January 13, 2013, from 1-4 p.m., according to a city newsletter. The event will showcase the new building, as well as an amenity pond and an amphitheater behind City Hall, where concerts and events will be held. On display on the first floor will be documents from the city's early days. Also, there will be a "living history" videotaping project, in which residents will provide personal accounts of what it was like growing up in Sugar Hill in the city's early days. North Gwinnett Relief Agency Finds a Permanent Home

The North Gwinnett Co-Operative Ministry celebrates its new Buford headquarters, which it owns.

The North Gwinnett Co-Operative Ministry goes back to 1991 in serving needy residents of Buford, Suwanee and Sugar Hill. But it took a step forward Tuesday (Oct. 2) by celebrating its new headquarters -- which it owns. "We'll be able to serve (residents in need) more efficiently," said Maureen Kornowa, the agency's executive director. Previously, the agency and its companion thrift store, Second Blessings, were in an administrative building of the Buford school system, and there have been other temporary locations over the years. Sugar Hill Preparing for Fall Festival

Activities are scheduled for Oct. 19-20.

Preparations are under way in Sugar Hill for the annual Fall Festival, according to the city newsletter. The main event will be Saturday, Oct. 20, with a 5k run on Oct. 19. On Oct. 20, thousands of attendees will be at E.E. Robinson Park to enjoy music, sample various foods, play games, interact with vendors, and purchase handmade goods from craft booths. The festival runs from 11:00 am and to 5 pm. Other activities includee: Check the city website for details, vendor information, and event registration forms. Prince Funeral: 'Family Can Be Together Forever'

There were tears, laughter and memories -- usually within seconds of each other -- Tuesday in Suwanee as family members, friends and others attended the emotional funeral ceremony for Griffin and Jake Prince. And there was a lot of talk about family and spirituality as the Prince and Hansen families were among those attending services for the brothers, killed in a June 18 boating collision on Lake Lanier. "Family is the perfect eternal organization," said Gary Hansen, one of the boys' grandfathers, at the ceremony at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Suwanee Dam Road. Work Progressing on Sugar Hill City Hall

City officials want to commemorate the new building with some history.

The City Of Sugar Hill will be getting a new City Hall this winter, and so it wants to commemorate some city history, according to a city news release. "Have you or a relative saved any photos, documents or post cards that may reference Sugar Hill? Have you knowledge of anyone that had worked in the NuAir plant, or before that the Barrington Corp.? "Does anyone remember boots being manufactured in Sugar Hill?
