Georgia and Super Tuesday Are Critical for Gingrich

Running in third place among GOP candidates, the former House speaker needs to win Georgia to propel his campaign forward.

Georgia once was Newt Gingrich's home state. On Tuesday, it could be the state that makes or breaks his 2012 presidential hopes. The former U.S. House speaker is in third place in the delegate count as the Republican primaries enter their heaviest day of voting yet. Georgia's 73 delegates are the single largest prize on Super Tuesday, when 10 states vote or begin caucuses. Showing his regard for this area, Gingrich will appear at a Gwinnett Chamber event Tuesday when voting enters its final day. Early voting began on Feb. 13. However, the former West Georgia College professor stressed in a speech in Suwanee last month that other Super Tuesday states are clearly in his sights. (See the attached video.) Also, Gingrich made a campaign …

Romney Stops in Gwinnett, Serves Up Pancakes

Suwanee residents are among those who turned out in Snellvile on Sunday as the GOP delegate leader sought votes on Super Tuesday.

It's not every day that a presidential candidate stops by a Gwinnett high school, and serves pancakes while he's there. But, that was Mitt Romney on the Sunday before a critically important Super Tuesday, when 76 Georgia delegates will be up for grabs. In a last-minute effort to secure a win, Romney's campaign announced Saturday that they were hosting a pancake brunch at Brookwood High School in Snellville the following day. One campaign volunteer said about 1,500 people signed up. However, closer to 2,000 people showed up, according to the fire marshal, and some 500 people were forced to stand outside in the cold. No pancakes for them, but speakers were set up so they could hear what was going on inside. Romney, along with his wife, Ann, …

Mitt Romney Making a Stop in Gwinnett on Sunday

An event is planned at Brookwood High, his website says.

Updated 10:35 a.m., March 4 Mitt Romney, the current delegate leader among GOP presidential candidates, is making a campaign stop in south Gwinnett on Sunday, according to his website. Romney, fresh off a victory in the Washington state caucuses on Saturday, plans a complimentary pancake brunch at Brookwood High in Snellville from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. "Join Mitt and Team Georgia for a pancake brunch at Brookwood High School," the post reads. It's another sign that other GOP candidates are not writing off Georgia's 73 delegates to Newt Gingrich, who currently leads in Georgia polls leading up to Tuesday's primary voting. Romney's wife, Ann, made an appearance in Alpharetta last week and Rick Santorum, currently No. 2 in the delegate count, has…

Santorum: You Need a Candidate Who Has Fought for Conservative Issues

The GOP candidate hosts a rally at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport on Thursday.

DeKalb-Peachtree Airport was temporarily transformed into "Santorum Country" on Thursday. Lawn stakes peppered the grassy islands at the entrance of the airport, cars adorned electronic Santorum signs, self-proclaimed Santorum "roadies" sold campaign buttons on the perimeter of the staging area, and about 50 home-schooled children stood on stage behind the former Pennsylvania congressman as he spoke to an audience of about 200 people in Brookhaven. Standing with a miniature version of the U.S. Constitution in his right hand and the microphone in the other, Rick Santorum said that he was the only true conservative candidate that could mark a clear contrast between himself and President Obama in the November election. And while the political…

GOP Presidential Derby Cranks Up Again Tuesday

Michigan and Arizona primaries will add more interest to the delegate mix.

As Georgia's March 6 presidential primary gets closer, each preceding primary gets more important also. Tuesday, Michigan and Arizona hold their primaries, with a total of 59 delegates at stake. Delegate leader Mitt Romney figures to win his home state of Michigan and add to his total. Newt Gingrich, in third place, did not campaign in Michigan. A candidate needs 1,144 delegates to gain the GOP nomination to face President Obama in November, so the race still is wide open. Another sign of the stature of things: Candidate Rick Santorum has been granted Secret Service protection, which Romney already has. Gingrich has requested it. On Super Tuesday (March 6), Georgia's 73 delegates are the biggest prize. So tell us how you think things will …

Gingrich To Be in Gwinnett on Super Tuesday

The former U.S. House speaker plans to be at the Gwinnett Chamber on March 6.

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has called Georgia important to his election success in 2012, and he's showing it again by returning to Gwinnett. The former U.S. House Speaker from Georgia plans to be in Duluth on Super Tuesday (March 6) for a Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce event. Gingrich appeared at Collins Hill High in Suwanee on Feb. 18, making a rousing speech before about 400 people. He was very critical of President Obama, calling him "the most dangerous president in modern American history." Georgia is among 11 states that will hold primaries or caucuses on March 6, and with 73 delegates at stake, this state is the biggest prize that day. Though polls show Gingrich leading in Georgia, he does not consider this state a…

Santorum Draws a Crowd in Cumming

The presidential hopeful pleaded his case Sunday in Georgia for the Republican nomination by promising to get the country back to its moral founding.

Updated Feb. 21, 2012 Georgia was certainly on presidential hopeful Rick Santorum’s mind as he spoke at First Redeemer Church_ in Cumming on Sunday evening. Lori Vance, who has worked closely with Santorum on the Senate floor to pass a partial birth abortion ban, was among those who arrived hours before the church doors opened. She drove five hours from Tennessee “just to support Rick” and proudly displayed a picture of her and Santorum around her neck. Young Voters Travel Far to Hear Santorum Speak Kevin Zurrica, 23, from Macon believes most people his age aren’t interested in the political process. But he hopes that Santorum will snag the nomination and win the hearts of America’s youth. According to Zurrica, America’s young voters are …

The 12-term Congressman from Texas supports the notion that the federal government’s personal income tax is unconstitutional and equates all taxes with Ron Paul’s voting record on taxes is starkly different from those of his moderate-establishment rivals for the Republican nomination. So much so, that one is hard pressed to successfully claim ignorance of them. That’s why last Wednesday at the …   more ›

Gingrich To Speak in Suwanee This Week

The GOP presidential candidate will stop at Collins Hill High on Saturday.

Newt Gingrich, casting an eye toward his former home state as Super Tuesday approaches, will make a campaign stop in Suwanee this week. The former U.S. House speaker from Georgia will be at on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 11:30-12:15. This comes not long after a scheduled stop in Cumming on Saturday, according to a campaign spokesperson. Most major polls show Gingrich running behind Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in the quest to oppose President Obama in November. A New York Times delegate count shows Ginrich in third place. So Super Tuesday (March 6) takes on added importance, as Georgia and Virginia, now Gingrich's home state, are among the 11 states scheduled to vote that day. Suwanee Patch will have more updates on this event.

You could ask what kind of birth control Callista used when she was his mistress. And what kind of birth control his wife, #1 or #2, used at the same time. And if taxpayers of Georgia and the United States of America paid for what must have been a fairly large bill. Then you could ask if he's taking any medications, at taxpayer expense, for symptoms of any psychological disorder. He has a history…   more ›
