Greater Gwinnett Golf Tournament Scores in First Year

Despite a rainy start in 2013, the Greater Gwinnett Championship's final two days were picture perfect for the Champions Tour event.

The inaugural Greater Gwinnett Championship finished with a flourish on Sunday in nearly ideal weather conditions for galleries to enjoy the Champions Tour event at the TPC Sugarloaf golf course. A rainy Friday didn't deter the 25,000 or so golf fans who came to watch the three-day event held April 19-21 on the Greg Norman-designed golf course in Duluth. "We were hoping for over 40,000," said Stan Hall, the executive director of Greater Gwinnett Championship foundation, which heads up the operation and control of the new tournament. "If it hadn't rained on Friday, we would have easily met our goal." Gwinnett Pro Golf Tourney Begins Friday With Strong Field

TPC Sugarloaf is hosting the inaugural Greater Gwinnett Championship, a Champions Tour event, April 19-21. The field includes Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw, Hale Irwin and Curtis Strange.

After a long hiatus, professional golf is returning to Gwinnett County. The Greater Gwinnett Championship (GGC), a three-day PGA Champions Tour event, is set to play Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21 at the TPC Sugarloaf course. The Greg Norman-designed course last hosted a PGA event in 2008, (formerly the BellSouth Classic) and attracted some of the top names in golf, including Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson. The inaugural GGC marks the Champions Tour’s return to the Atlanta area for the first time since 2000. TPC Sugarloaf Lady Golfers Pitching In

Fourteen members of Sugarloaf Ladies Golf Association Nine Hole Group will be manning the registration desk and supervising clubhouse activity at the Greater Gwinnett Championship Pro-Am.

Fourteen members of the Sugarloaf Ladies Golf Association Nine Hole Group are spending two busy days volunteering Wednesday and Thursday (April 17-18) at the Championship Pro-Am at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth. Professional golfers entered in the Greater Gwinnett Championship, a PGA Champions Tour event, this weekend are playing with amateurs in the Pro-Am. The Pro-Am volunteers include the group’s Co-Presidents Andrea Holliday and Maggie Innes. Others volunteering are Erin Waddington, Carol Ray, Judy Gagne, Barb Barger, Angela Pittman, Penny Nett, Denise Quinlan, Marian Roberson, Karen Post, Jayne Hoffman, Marie Turner, and Katya McGill. Greater Gwinnett Golf Tournament: Info on Parking, Tickets

Here's some stuff you need to know about attending the Greater Gwinnett Championship at TPC Sugarloaf this week.

So you’re planning to attend the Greater Gwinnett Championship this week at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth? A field of 81 Senior PGA Tour professional golfers are scheduled to play in the $1.8 million Champions Tour event. Play for the 54-hole event begins Friday. Here's some stuff you need to know: Tickets are still available and may be purchased through Sunday, April 21, at the Gwinnett Arena Box Office, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway. Box Office hours are as follows: To reduce traffic congestion, all public parking is at Gwinnett Center, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, and a shuttle will carry spectators to TPC Sugarloaf. Some 2013 Masters Golfers Plan to Be in Greater Gwinnett Tournament Field

The fabled event in Augusta starts Thursday. And some of the legends also will be at TPC Sugarloaf next week.

In Georgia, April always means the Masters golf tournament. And in 2013, there's something of a Gwinnett connection. Some of the legendary golfers who will tee it up beginning Thursday (April 11) in Augusta also are scheduled to appear in the Greater Gwinnett Championship at TPC Sugarloaf the following week. Former Masters champions Tom Watson and Larry Mize are among the players who reportedly will make the drive from Augusta National to Duluth for the 54-hole Champions Tour event that begins April 19. Craig Stadler and Mark O'Meara are also on the list of committed players for the GGC tourney who also plan to play in Augusta, the first of the year's four major golf tourneys. Hall of Famers Commit to Gwinnett 2013 Pro Golf Tournament

Larry Nelson, Hale Irwin and Tom Kite as well as leading money winners are scheduled to be at the event at TPC Sugarloaf in April.

Hall of Famers Larry Nelson, Hale Irwin and Tom Kite as well as recent winners such as John Cook have committed to play in the PGA Champions Tour event at TPC Sugarloaf in Gwinnett in April, according to an announcement. Officials of the Greater Gwinnett Championship announced Tuesday (January 29) that 27 of the top 30 players from the Champions Tour 2012 money list have committed for the event, which marks the return of pro golf to Gwinnett after an absence of several years. TPC Sugarloaf To Host Champions Tour in April 2013

Tournament marks the return of pro tour golf to Gwinnett. The dates are April 15-21, 2013.

TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth will host the Greater Gwinnett Championship, one of the events on the PGA Champions Tour, April 15-21, 2013. TPC Sugarloaf also will serve as the site for the golf tournament though 2016. Champions Tour, Gwinnett Sports Commission, Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau, and TPC Sugarloaf officials announced the tour dates at a press conference Tuesday (Oct. 2) in the TPC Sugarloaf Clubhouse. Everyone who spoke was excited about the return of championship golf to Gwinnett County and TPC Sugarloaf. Gwinnett May Get PGA Champions Tour Event in 2013

A news conference with some Champions Tour players is set for October at TPC Sugarloaf.

It's looking more and more like pro golf will tee up again in Gwinnett in 2013. Gwinnett tourism officials and the PGA Champions Tour have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the prestigious TPC Sugarloaf Course in Duluth. And Gwinnett officials already have acknowledged that they were discussing an event with the PGA Champions Tour for 2013. The invitation for Tuesday's news conference called it an "important announcement" and said that Corey Pavin and Larry Nelson -- both Champions Tour regulars -- would be in attendance.
