Several former University of Georgia and NBA basketball stars will be in a benefit event at Peachtree Ridge High in Suwanee on April 5. The event is being held in conjunction with the NCAA Final Four, which will be in Atlanta that weekend. According to a Peachtree Ridge newsletter, former NBA greats Artis Gilmore and Dave Cowens and former Bulldogs coach Hugh Durham will be at the Wounded Warrior Amputees Final Four Friday event, which will run 5-8 p.m. The celebrity challenge game also will involve other former NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball stars, the release said. Former University of Georgia head football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley will sign copies of his books and collegiate memorabilia from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Duluth Kroger at 3093 Steve Reynolds Blvd. Dooley coached the UGA football team for 25 years (1964-88) and led the Bulldogs to 201 victories, including the 1980 National Championship. Also, he was athletic director from 1979-2004. The legendary coach has published more than nine books focused on his life, the South and football, including “How ‘Bout Them Dawgs,” “Dooley: My 40 Years at Georgia,” “Hairy Dawg’s Journey Through the Peach State,” and “Vince Dooley’s Garden: A Horticultural Journey of a Football Coach.” Dooley's books and UGA merchandise will be …

Another Saturday of upsets in college football should scramble rankings.
Georgia as BCS national champion for 2012-13? Could happen. After No. 1 Kansas and No. 2 Oregon lost Saturday (November 17), the Bulldogs now have a realistic chance at the BCS title game (January 7 in Miami). The top two teams in the final BCS standings will play for the title. The Bulldogs, who were No. 5 in last week's BCS rankings, could move up this week after Saturday's upsets. Georgia kept its chances alive Saturday with a 45-14 victory over Georgia Southern. Now, UGA must beat Georgia Tech on November 24 and win the SEC title game on December 1 to be able to play in Miami. The Bulldogs' foe in Atlanta will be known after the Alabama-Auburn game on November 24. Alabama is No. 4 in the BCS, with No. 3 Notre Dame in the best position …

The Georgia Southern-Georgia game will be televised on WSB-TV at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. -- Once again, the Georgia Bulldogs have overcome an early loss to South Carolina to earn their way to the SEC title game. But before heading down the road to Atlanta, the Dawgs host instate rivals Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech. “We know we’re playing in Atlanta and that’s settled right now, but we know there’s a lot of work in the meantime, which is the job of getting better on a daily basis,” head coach Mark Richt said early this week. The triumphant Bulldogs return to Athens, back in the driver's seat in the SEC Eastern Division.
The Ole Miss-Georgia game will be on CBS at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. --- The Bulldogs did what they needed against Florida last week in what henceforth shall be known as the Hot Potato Bowl, but it wasn't pretty. The game produced more ugly turnovers than a remedial pastry class. Credit Georgia's resurgent defense for Florida's sloppiness. Don't look now, but Mississippi State is in the thick of the SEC title race. The Bulldogs from Starkville, Miss., are unbeaten in the SEC at 3-0 as they prepare to travel to Tuscaloosa and Saturday's game with No. 1 Alabama (4-0 in SEC). Game time is 8:30 p.m., ESPN. Mississippi State has enjoyed steady success under head coach Dan Mullen, a former University of Florida coach who took over in 2009. The team went to bowls in 2010 and 2011, and with seven wins overall in 2012, it is bowl-eligible again. Now, Mississippi State can achieve more by beating No. 1 Alabama. The Bulldogs are hoping for a strong performance, and some help from Florida, to get back into the SEC East title hunt.
We knew Bulldogs fans would be rooting for Florida this week, so the Gators can beat South Carolina and restore Georgia's opportunity to win the SEC East division. Aaron Murray's even telling people to. Murray told the AP that Georgia faithful have "a free pass" to be one-time Florida fans and added, "I definitely am." UGA head coach Mark Richt also got into the act, telling the press: "I'm definitely a Gator fan this week." Of course, what Richt, Murray and Bulldogs fans really need to concentrate on is getting the job done at Kentucky on Saturday (game time: 7 p.m.; FSN). Hope that you don't get an email or a letter from UGA soon. The school is notifying about 8,500 employees, both current and former ones, that their personal records may have been hacked. According to a university press release, officials are investigating "a criminal act of computer trespass” by an intruder, according to UGA Vice President for Information Technology Timothy Chester. The initial hacking may have happened as early as Sept. 28. The investigation began Oct. 1 after officials learned that someone reset the MyID passwords of two UGA employees, both of whom work in sensitive information technology positions.
