UPDATE: Velo Music Video from Gwinnett To Debut Soon

The Suwanee artist shot the 'Southern Thing' event last fall in Buford.

Updated Jan. 31, 2012 People in and around Suwanee who turned out at a Buford club last fall may get to see themselves on TV soon. The music video for "Southern Thing," the latest single from Andy Velo of Suwanee, is to debut within weeks on the CMT channel, Velo said Monday. (An earlier report here that the video was to debut Monday was based on erroneous information on Velo's website.) Velo, a North Gwinnett High grad, shot the "Southern Thing" video at 37 Main in Buford last October.  Velo is known for a vigorous touring schedule, but it frequently includes the home turf. Among his area stops was a special show Saturday at Wild Bill's in Duluth. He also played several acoustic gigs at Suwanee-area sites over the Christmas holidays.

Velo To Play in Buford on Friday

Country music star from Suwanee making the local scene during the holidays.

Andy Velo, the graduate of North Gwinnett High in Suwanee, will play an acoustic gig Friday at Triple Play in Buford, according to his Facebook and Twitter feeds. It's not uncommon for Velo, whose regular touring includes large festivals and mid-size arenas, to play at smaller locations on his home turf. In late October he filmed a music video at 37 Main in Buford. He also played at Town Center Park in Suwanee in early November, though that was hampered by unseasonably cold weather. Velo's star clearly is on the rise. He has Jim Beam, the famous distillery, as a touring sponsor, and he now has two singles -- "Southern Thing" and "Hank It Up." "I knew this (stardom) was going to happen," he told Suwanee Patch recently. "I just didn't know …

Velo Caps Parks Playtime in Suwanee

Daylong event provides varied entertainment around the city.

The chilly weather Saturday night meant no encore, but there still was plenty of warmth for Andy Velo at Town Center Park in Suwanee. Family members got hugs and pictures with Velo, the country music rising star who came home for the headline event at Parker's Parks Party. He took the stage about 8 p.m. and played about an hour, shorter than intended because the fans who did turn out still were affected by the cold. Also, the event was competing with the LSU-Alabama college football telecast. "And how 'bout them Bulldogs right up the road?" Velo, 24, said in reference to North Gwinnett High, his alma mater, and its region-clinching football victory the night before. Velo's set included his newest single, "Southern Thing," as well as some …

Velo Gets Warm Reception From Chilly Crowd in Suwanee

Rising country music performer entertains loyalists at Town Center Park.

If you passed on the first half of LSU-Alabama, put on your mittens and hoodie and headed for Town Center Park in Suwanee on Saturday, you might be an Andy Velo fan. A cozy gathering did, and they heard just over an hour of rockin' country tunes from a Suwanee native who performed on the home turf to conclude Parker's Parks Party. "My small but mighty crowd" was the way Velo, 24, greeted fans shortly after the show began. His set list included his singles "Hank It Up" and "Southern Thing," as well as other Velo favorites. Suwanee Patch will have more coverage of Velo's show soon.

Velo 'Excited To Be Coming Back' to Suwanee

North Gwinnett grad and country music rising star plays Saturday at Town Center Park.

Things have changed since Andy Velo made his debut at Town Center Park in Suwanee in 2004. He was unplugged then because that was his norm. There was no sponsored touring bus, no videos. "That was before it took off to become a great venue," Velo recalled by telephone recently as he looked forward to his gig in his hometown Saturday, Nov. 5. Velo's career has taken off, too. Suwanee now is a stop on his tour, which included a large festival in southwest Alabama last weekend and a music-video shoot last week at a club in Buford. He also blocks out a week regularly to go to Nashville to write songs and have business meetings. But he stays grounded. His crew didn't take the bus from Atlanta to the Alabama festival until last Saturday morning…

A Velo Video Warmup for Suwanee

The rising country music star from Suwanee combines a video shoot and family matters recently in Buford.

"Girl, I thought what we had could never turn bad/So your leavin' caught me unaware/But the fact is you've run ... girl, that can't be undone/ So here's a quarter, call someone who cares."  Travis Tritt, also performed by Andy Velo on Oct. 26, 2011 The air was thick with Andy Velo stories Wednesday night at 37 Main-A Rock Cafe in Buford. Velo, the Suwanee native and North Gwinnett High grad whose star is rising in country music, was telling some of the stories himself while he and his band were recording a video for Country Music Television. "I used to lock myself up in my grandmother's house and watch videos on CMT," Velo told the crowd at 37 Main, which had come to hear Velo and be a part of filming the video (his first) for "Southern …

Country Music Rising Star Velo Heading for Suwanee Soon

It's an Alabama festival, then Town Center Park on Nov. 5.

The rising career of country musician Andy Velo gets busy again the next two weeks. And it includes an appearance in Suwanee, his hometown, on Nov. 5. Velo, a North Gwinnett High graduate who released his first single in 2010, will be the headline performer in Town Center Park for Parker's Parks Party, a multi-park event meant to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Open Space Initiative. This week, Velo will be among several well-known artists when the takes the stage at the TomBigbee River Jam festival in Silas, Ala. (The location is near both Mobile and Hattiesburg, Miss.)
