SUWANEE NEWS WEEK: Gwinnett Library System Takes $1 Million Hit ...

The news stayed strong in Suwanee and Gwinnett as 2013 came into play. So it's time to review some recent highlights. (Click on the links for more information.) GWINNETT LIBRARIES URGED TO CHANGE: Gwinnett's elected leaders voted in a $1.4 billion budget for 2013 that included a $1 million reduction in materials for the library system. After several such cuts in recent years, commissioners said a new business model is in order for the libraries. SUWANEE RESTAURANTS CHANGE ... AND FAIL: The local restaurant scene continued to morph. Wedding Chapel Close to Completion Near Suwanee

Ashton Gardens expects to hold its first wedding in March.

That high-end wedding facility near Suwanee is nearing completion, and it plans to hold ceremonies there as soon as March. Ashton Gardens, which also has facilities in Houston and Dallas, began construction at the site on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Sugar Hill in spring 2012. It's near West Price Road and North Gwinnett Middle School. According to the website, "Our experienced event coordinators will assist in the planning of every detail of your ceremony & wedding reception & our award-winning culinary team makes every one of our original recipes from scratch using only the highest quality and freshest products available." And Ashton Gardens already is conducting "hard-hat tours" of the still-unfinished site to couples who are …

Wedding Chapel Coming to Suwanee Area

Updated 8:18 a.m., April 28 This isn't exactly the justice of the peace. But it may mean you won't have to fly to Vegas for a glitzy wedding. Construction has started near Suwanee on a high-end wedding facility: Ashton Gardens Wedding Chapel and Reception Complex on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near West Price Road, according to City Of Sugar Hill documents. This would be near North Gwinnett Middle School. Opening is expected in May 2013, and the website says people can book weddings now. In fact, its Facebook site says one wedding already has been booked. "We are moving right along with construction and have started clearing!," Ashton Gardens said in a Facebook post.
