Balloons were popping up all over Suwanee on Saturday. So were beer tasters. And so it was on the first full weekend of Suwanee spring events in 2012. The American Craft Beer Fest was back for a second year in Town Center Park, and the Plein Air -- outdoor painting -- event was back for another spring run. The participating artists identified themselves by tying balloons to their stations while painting at various locations around town. "I'm scared to death," said Ann Tiberghien of Berkeley Lake, who was participating in her first Plein Air event. This event continues Sunday, with winners announced at a reception in the evening at a Town Center Park restaurant. Suwanee Patch will have more coverage of the Beer Fest and the Plein Air event …

Town Center Park in Suwanee again will become a beer connoisseur's delight Saturday, but this year, patrons probably won't feel like they are in a sauna. The American Craft Beer Fest will be back for another run, and it has been moved to spring because of the searing midsummer heat that arose on last year's debut. The event still was well attended, and organizers are expecting about 5,000 people this year, according to a news release from Veugler Design Group, the sponsor. Veugler, based in Buford, also is associated with Suwanee Magazine. General admission tickets are $35, $45 at the gate, with designated driver tickets $10. VIP tickets are $85, but sold out. The main event is scheduled to run 1-5 p.m. A portion of the funds will be …

Patrons line up early for first-time event at Town Center Park.
Updated 9:10 a.m., July 25, 2011 For Duluth attorney Jason Rhoades, Saturday's Suwanee Beerfest was an opportunity for some target marketing. His booth at the Suwanee Beerfest offered patrons a chance for representation at a DUI hearing. Rhoades noted that efforts at other beerfests have been productive. "A lot of people don't remember where they saw us," he said. He and other vendors at the first Suwanee Beerfest had lots of foot traffic. People began lining up before the noon opening. Before 2 p.m., the line for pre-paid patrons stretched into Town Center Avenue and doubled back around in front of City Hall. Others had to stand in another line to get a ticket first. Organizers were expecting 4,000 people. If they hit that, it would be at…

Updated 8:42 a.m., July 24, 2011. It wasn't hard to find the beer tent Saturday at Town Center Park. The Suwanee Beerfest started at noon with several vendors, many of them breweries offering samples of their wares. Organizers were expecting about 4,000 people, with tickets at $35 (prepaid) and $40 (at the gate). The line to get in began forming well before the event opened. The event was administered by Suwanee Magazine, in conjunction with city officials. Suwanee Patch will have more coverage of the Beerfest soon.
