Ivy Creek Greenway Connection to Suwanee Coming

Gwinnett BOC accepts $1 million in federal funds to build link from Buford.

Gwinnett commissioners have accepted $1 million in federal funds to help build a section of the Ivy Creek Greenway that eventually will have a connection in Suwanee. These funds will help design and build Section 3 of the greenway. Construction will start next summer at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center in Buford, according to a county news release. The new portion of the greenway will wind through the woods for almost a mile before connecting to the existing trail that runs behind the Mall of Georgia, making a continuous length of over three miles, officials said. Ivy Creek Greenway Completed in Suwanee

The new section of the Ivy Creek Greenway in Suwanee is now open to the public, according to a Gwinnett County news release. The greenway was one of the primary goals of the Gwinnett County Open Space and Greenways Master Plan completed in 2002. In addition to the 1 1/4 mile built at George Pierce Park, there is an additional 2.7 miles of the greenway that runs from the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center in Buford to the Mall of Georgia area. The next phase of Ivy Creek Greenway construction will begin next year, according to the county, extending the trail from the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center through the woods at the F.
