And so the world gets another look at the remarkable story of Kyle Maynard, the Suwanee man who recently climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro -- despite being a congenital quadruple amputee. The new video, which is attached, includes footage of Maynard's childhood, of his exploits as a wrestler, of emotional encounters with others as a motivational speaker -- and of his journey up the tallest peak in Africa, which was completed in January. Another Feat for Maynard

The Suwanee City Council recognizes the Collins Hill High grad for reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Kyle Maynard's mantra is "no excuses." And his family didn't gived him any, even while Maynard was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Maynard's mother recalled Tuesday that during Maynard's climb, his father remarked, "I hope it's freezing up there, or he'll want to climb Everest." The event was at Suwanee City Hall, where the mayor and City Council proclaimed Feb. 29 as Kyle Maynard Day in the city. This was in honor of Maynard, a congenital quadriplegic, scaling the dormant volcano last month. He and his climbing team reached the summit of the tallest peak in Africa on Jan. 15. "Don't lose sight of what impact you are having," Maynard told council members at the ceremony. (See the attached video.) Also at Tuesday's meeting:

Kyle Maynard: From Kilimanjaro To Starbucks

The Suwanee resident is back in his routine after scaling the mountain in Africa.

When you've climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, a venti is allowed. Extra whipping cream, of course. Kyle Maynard is now enjoying life in Suwanee again after he and fitness teammates reached the summit of the famed dormant volcano in Africa. Maynard enjoyed his favorite coffee drink Tuesday while he reflected on his achievement. The climbing crew and support staff reached the summit of Kilimanjaro on Jan. 15, in the 10th day of their effort. Original plans called for a 15-day climb. "Up top it was freezing," Maynard recalled. Other than that, conditions were "about what I imagined. There was only one time I got cold." Now, it's time for some relaxation, but there also are tentative plans. Maynard is chiefly a motivational speaker, and he has an …

Maynard 'Ready for Down Time' After Reaching Summit of Kilimanjaro

The Suwanee resident who was born without complete limbs gives a television interview after arriving in the area Thursday.

Now it's back to civilization for Kyle Maynard of Suwanee. "I've got some major X-Box to catch up on," Maynard said Friday morning in an interview on 11Alive News out of Atlanta. Maynard, who attended Collins Hill High, and other team members reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania earlier this month after a 10-day climb. A motivational speaker, Maynard's effort was in part to inspire others, particularly military veterans re-entering civilian life. Attached are excerpts from the studio session at 11Alive. If you heard about Kyle then you have learned the obvious, and that he is an amazing person and athlete. I am a bit disappointed at the interviewer. I don’t care “how?” or if he was “keeping pace with hikers” I would like to know “Why” or “What” why did you pick that place ? what else did you accomplish? and what did you see?, what did you learn Kyle?   more ›
