Drowning Occurs at Lake Lanier on Labor Day

Doraville man, 25, dies while swimming across a cove at Van Pugh Park.

A 25-year-old Doraville man drowned at Lake Lanier on Labor Day (Sept. 3). Kyle Miller drowned at Van Pugh Park at about 4 p.m. Monday, Melissa Cummings, communications/outreach specialist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources reported. Miller was swimming across a cove at the day-use area with two others when he went under. The Hall Count Dive Team recovered his body in about 15 feet of water some 20 yards from the bank at 4:22 p.m., Cummings reported. Keep checking Patch for more updates on this incident.

Lake Lanier Search Resumes Aug. 20 for Missing Boater

Authorities and perhaps family members will resume searching Monday (Aug. 20) on Lake Lanier for the Atlanta man who still is missing after a boating incident early Saturday. WSB-TV reported that search teams ended their efforts Sunday afternoon because of weather and boat traffic. They are seeking Jeff Nause, 44, a Georgia Tech graduate and CEO of a semiconductor company. Nause jumped off a boat about 12:30 a.m. Saturday near Three Sisters Island, according to reports. Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the case is being investigated as an accidental drowning. Man Believed Drowned, Teen Injured in Separate Lake Lanier Boating Accidents

Updated 8:15 a.m., Aug. 19 A man is still missing and believed drowned after jumping from a sailboat, and a teen girl was cut by a boat propeller in separate Lake Lanier incidents Saturday (Aug. 18). MAN MISSING AFTER JUMPING FROM BOAT: WSB-TV reported that Atlanta resident Jeffrey Nause, 44, jumped from a sailboat into the lake waters about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He was with a woman and another couple near Lake Lanier Islands. Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials (DNR) officials said they had to suspend the search Saturday due to the high volume of traffic on the lake, and the search was expected to resume Sunday. Bennett Indicted in Fatal Lake Lanier Boating Collision

The Cumming man was involved in a deadly collision that resulted in the deaths of brothers Griffin and Jake Prince of Gwinnett.

Paul J. Bennett, 44, of Cumming has been indicted by a Hall County grand jury. He is the operator of a fishing boat that struck a pontoon boat in June on Lake Lanier, killing two Gwinnett siblings, 9-year-old Jake Prince and his brother Griffin, 13. Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh spoke with Patch and said Bennett was arraigned Thursday afternoon for: As for what happens next to Bennett, Darragh said, "Obviously he is scheduled for later hearings, but beyond that I don't have any other information for you." Channel Markers Installed at Lake Lanier Islands

Several recent tragedies prompt resort officials to act with boating aids the Sunset Cove area.

Boating accidents that have claimed the lives of three youths in the past two months on Lake Lanier have prompted resort officials to install a new safety feature -- channel markers. Currently bobbing off the shore of the Sunset Cove area of Lake Lanier Islands are red and green channel markers, designed to aid in navigation through the busy harbor, according to a news release. -- What do you think of this safety measure at Lake Lanier? Secondly, unless everyone who visits Sunset Cove reads this article, they won't have a clue what the markers are for, and not to mention that the markers are not visible at night. Divers Recover Body of Drowning Victim on Lake Lanier

A 44-year-old man drowns Thursday at West Bank Park located off Buford Dam Road.

A family outing on Lake Lanier turned tragic Thursday afternoon (July 26) after a 44-year-old man drowned. Capt. Jason Shivers with the Forsyth County Fire Department said units were dispatched at 3:08 p.m. to Lake Lanier for a "missing person, presumed drowning victim." "Upon our arrival we confirmed with family and friends, and bystanders that in fact a drowning was witnessed of an adult male off the shore of West Bank Park [located off Buford Dam Road] here in Forsyth County," said Shivers. Kile Glover Funeral Set for Friday

The youngster died from injuries suffered in an accident on Lake Lanier earlier in July.

The funeral for Kile Glover, the Atlanta youth who died from injuries suffered on Lake Lanier in July, will be Friday (July 27), according to media reports. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that the services for the son of Usher's ex-wife will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Weiuca Road Baptist Church on Peachtree Road. Glover, 11, and a teenage friend were in an inner tube being pulled on a boat when they were hit by a personal watercraft. Glover suffered severe head injuries and was on life support for two weeks. The Georgia DNR has identified Jeffrey S. Hubbard, a family friend, as the driver of the personal watercraft. No charges have been filed in the incident, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident. …
