Suwanee Council Recognizes Level Creek Elementary

Also, zoning is changed to allow for a Jimmy John's restaurant.

Level Creek Elementary got more recognition Tuesday. The Suwanee City Council commended Principal Dr. Nancy Kiel and her staff at City Hall. The school was recognized recently as a Georgia School of Excellence by the state Department of Education. 'Operation Safety' Swarms Suwanee School

Federal, state and local authorities give students demonstrations of their procedures.

Bomb-sniffing dogs, police robots, DEA agents and Secret Service agents were at a Suwanee school last week. At one point, an officer was told, "Drop it." But Level Creek Elementary actually was one of the safest places anywhere. The occasion was Operation Safety Day, an event featuring various local, state and federal agencies showing their operations to the students. -- What is your favorite law enforcement agency? Black Hawk Down ... in Suwanee

Federal, state and local agencies gather for Operation Safety Day at Level Creek Elementary.

Level Creek Elementary took the saying "safety first" to a new level Friday. The Suwanee school hosted Operation Safety Day, which was a gathering of top-level federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Officials gave the students a demonstration of various procedures and equipment. The U.S. Army was present with a Black Hawk helicopter (see attached photo), and the DEA and ATF also were on hand. Dignitaries To Honor Suwanee School

Level Creek Elementary celebrating School of Excellence award.

Suwanee Mayor Jimmy Burnette will be among the local and state dignitaries at Level Creek Elementary on Monday, May 7, for a ceremony. The school will have a ceremony from 10-11 a.m. to commemorate being selected as a 2011 Georgia School of Excellence. The school will be presented with a $1,000 as part of the award. Other special guests will include Gwinnett Schools Superintendent Alvin Wilbanks, state Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Barge, and Area V Superintendent Nancy Martin. Secret Service To Hold Event at Suwanee School

Operation Safety Day at Level Creek Elementary also will include other law enforcement agencies.

Secret Service agents will be at a Suwanee school on Friday, May 11. No, President Obama will not be making a campaign appearance. Rather, the agents, along with other law enforcement agencies, will be part of Operation Safety Day at Level Creek Elementary, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., according to an announcement by the school. The event is sponsored by the United States Secret Service and provides the opportunity for a student’s picture and fingerprinting to be compiled in a safety document for parent/guardian use only. Suwanee Library, Schools Join Read Across America Day on Friday

The Suwanee branch of the Gwinnett Public Library will join Read Across America Day activities Friday, March 2. Also, Chopper, the Gwinnett Braves' mascot, will participate in the event at a school in Sugar Hill. The library will host an event Friday at 2 p.m. Other Suwanee-area activities include: This year, the National Education Association, a group of more than 3.2 million educators who work to improve public schools, is calling on book lovers around the nation to take up The Lorax, the popular Dr. Seuss children's book published in 1971 about the lovable creature who fights to save the environment.
