"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is showing in Suwanee at the Movie Tavern near I-85. --- Nine years after the last episode of "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy, we go back to Middle-earth with "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which opens Friday (December 14). So we bring you a sampling of online reviews of the film, which, like the "Rings" trilogy, is based on a J.R.R. Tolkien work. However, "The Hobbit" will be a trilogy based on just one novel. Fans of independent films will have another opportunity to indulge themselves Monday (November 5) in Suwanee, when the screening series returns to the Movie Tavern. Updated Sept. 18 Suwanee's arts scene moves back on stage Monday (Sept. 17), when the first portion of an independent film festival debuts at the Movie Tavern. "Age Of Champions," a film about the National Senior Olympics, will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Movie Tavern location, 2855 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, near I-85. Director Christopher Rufo will be on hand to discuss the film with patrons, according to a city news release. The Suwanee arts scene will add a new wrinkle beginning in September 2012 when a tour of independent films will begin showings that last until April 2013. City officials, teaming with the Movie Tavern and the Southern Tour of Independent Filmmakers, wiil bring a series of six films to the city, according to Crossroads, the city's official newsletter. -- Are you a fan of indie films? Fans of singer Katy Perry -- and yes, there are quite a few of them, including in Suwanee and Gwinnett -- can catch their fave's new film, which rolls out Thursday, July 5.
