Plein Air Arts Is Back in Suwanee

On Saturday and Sunday, artists again will capture landscape images from around the city.

Again this weekend, artists will head for various points around Suwanee to put images on canvas in the fall Plein Air event, which runs Saturday and Sunday (October 27-28). Organized by the North Gwinnett Arts Association (NGAA), the Plein Air event features artists recording landscape scenes as they appear naturally. They use various methods, such as oils, acrylics, watercolors. -- Have you seen Plein Air artists at work in Suwanee? Have you purchased any of their works? Tell us in the comments below. Artists 'Canvas' Suwanee

The annual Plein Air event makes a spring appearance.

There were some first-timers, and some veterans. But the vibrant arts community came out again in Suwanee over the weekend, as the Plein Air event made its spring appearance. Joan Terrell of Hoschton checked in to the temporary headquarters of the North Gwinnett Art Association (NGAA) near City Hall to have her canvas stamped for the event. And Anita Stewart, who runs her own art school in Buford, set up on the lawn behind City Hall in the morning. She would do a watercolor-acrylic combo portrait of Sunset, one of the SculpTour pieces. Other artist located all over town, some at Sims Lake Park, some at George Pierce Park, and some talked of heading to Old Town. For Stewart, art is nothing new. She's a board member of the NGAA and has been …

A Taste of Spring in Suwanee

Beer Fest and Plein Air arts events kick the season into high gear.

Balloons were popping up all over Suwanee on Saturday. So were beer tasters. And so it was on the first full weekend of Suwanee spring events in 2012. The American Craft Beer Fest was back for a second year in Town Center Park, and the Plein Air -- outdoor painting -- event was back for another spring run. The participating artists identified themselves by tying balloons to their stations while painting at various locations around town. "I'm scared to death," said Ann Tiberghien of Berkeley Lake, who was participating in her first Plein Air event. This event continues Sunday, with winners announced at a reception in the evening at a Town Center Park restaurant. Suwanee Patch will have more coverage of the Beer Fest and the Plein Air event …

Artists Paint the Town in Suwanee -- Again

Plein Air Event brings various artists and styles to points around town.

Vickie Johnson needs her "old lady eyes" to paint, so she whipped out her glasses Saturday morning in the Old Town area of Suwanee as she and other artists began the Plein Air Event. Johnson, chairman of the North Gwinnett Arts Association and a Central Gwinnett High teacher, had some younger company. Students Grace Kim and Gabriel Campoy-Gonzalez were nearby to record the structures and landscape with oils and acrylics. Others artists such as Adrienne Kinsey of Buford and Linda Tilden of Hoschton set up in Town Center Park. And NGAA set up in a storefront at Town Center to offer information to patrons, including locations of artists. A similar event was held earlier this year. It's another facet of Suwanee's arts community, and like the …
