A sunrise service is among the options. Share yours here.
It's Good Friday, and there are many Easter-related activities in and near Suwanee for the weekend. As usual, Shadowbrook Baptist Church will hold a sunrise service on Easter Sunday morning, beginning at 6:30 a.m. The church, which is located nearby on Suwanee Dam Road, annually hosts the service at Town Center Park. Freedman's career in television electronics and family life prospered after World War II.
Hank Freedman has a modern television in his Suwanee residence, has a Facebook page and works a cell phone well. But he remembers things called test patterns and rabbit ears. He broke into Atlanta retail in 1946 after Army service in Germany -- at $9,000 a year. After seven years with Davisons, he got a call from a former associate there to join Rich's, then the dominant department store in Atlanta. A couple of legendary Suwanee figures were honored Tuesday by the City Council. Shadowbrook Baptist Church pastor Bobby Linkous, also a familiar figure in civic affairs, has his "day" Wednesday after a proclamation by Mayor Jimmy Burnette. And William "Coach Mac" McDaniel, who died March 7 after a long career at North Gwinnett High and Sugar Hill High, was honored with proclamations from Gov. Nathan Deal and the Georgia House of Representatives. -- What are your thoughts of Linkous and "Coach Mac?" Tell us in the comments below. Suwanee greeted the Easter sunrise on Sunday by turning out for a sunrise service at Town Center Park. The special service was hosted by Shadowbrook Baptist Church, as in previous years. Suwanee's Christmas season kicks into full gear this weekend, as Shadowbrook Baptist Church will put on its annual Christmas In The Park event in Town Center Park. According to the church's website, live Christmas music and a "Christmas village" will be part of the event, which will be Friday and Saturday, 5-30-8 p.m. "Villagers" will be dressed in Dickensian fashion, and the whole event will be open for photographs with family members. Also, The Great Winter Race is where teens and adults compete for the best time. Gift cards will be awarded at the end of the evening. The attached video contains scenes from last year's event.
