It all started on Dec. 23, 2010. Now it's time to recap some of the news events that we have brought you in typical Patch fashion.
On Dec. 23, 2010, at 10 a.m., Suwanee Patch went live on the Internet. We didn't know what would happen, just that it would be a new news source, presented in a unique, 21st century way. And indeed, things have been lively. For a city of roughly 15,300, Suwanee has been a constant source of information. We've added bloggers, contests, and other new features, and will continue to do so. But community information and interaction remain our staple, and we want to review some of the top events that happened in our first year. In true Letterman style, here goes: 10. Snow shuts down Suwanee: For a week in January, snow and ice blanketed the city, making even the most routine commute hazardous. Schools closed for five days, pushing graduation …

Council also approves a slight change in the city's events policy.
The Suwanee City Council gave honors to the city manager as well as several volunteers involved in the recent Suwanee Day festival Tuesday at its October meeting. Amy Doherty, events coordinator for Suwanee, commended officials from the Royal Dance Academy for their direction of the flash mob that hit Town Center Park about 4 p.m. "If I had been in charge, we'd be doing the hokey pokey," Doherty said. "We wanted to educate Suwanee," Jay Johnson of Royal Dance said in accepting a special plaque from the city. Doherty also honored an official from 12Stone Church and many other Suwanee Day volunteers, who already have met regarding next year's festival. Suwanee Mayor Dave Williams also gave a special award to City Manager Marty Allen. "He …

Updated 11:33 p.m., Sept. 17, 2011 The hits came often Saturday night in Suwanee Town Center Park as the Lovin' Spoonful capped the annual Suwanee Day festival with a concert. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group had people dancing, clapping and whistling to such familiar tunes as "Summer In The City," "Daydream" and "Do You Believe In Magic?" The annual sea of humanity descended on the park all day for the parade and other attractions. Residents, visitors and vendors were plentiful, and the weather turned out to be sunny and pleasant. Suwanee Patch will have more coverage of Suwanee Day events.

It's hard not to notice the signs that Suwanee Day is near. Road signs, tents, rehearsals ... seems all parts of town and all types of people are working on something related to the city's signature event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday in and around Town Center Park. And some Suwanee Day trivia, which we will answer at some point: Who will be playing Parker, the city's mascot, during the Suwanee Day parade? --- Previous Suwanee Patch story on Suwanee Day: http://patch.com/A-lx13
Longtime band member promises hits early and late at Saturday's show at Suwanee Day.
Suwanee has had some notable musical peformers play on the Town Center Park stage in the past few years. But it never has had a performer from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Until now. The Lovin' Spoonful, which made its name in the 1960s with hits such as "Do You Believe In Magic" and "Summer In The City," will headline the Suwanee Day activites with a performance beginning at 8:15 p.m. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. And unlike some groups from the pre-MTV era that have kept touring, the Spoonful largely has its core group intact. Only founding member John Sebastian is no longer with the band. The Spoonful's Suwanee appearance is near the end of an active 2011 tour schedule. The band's appeal is …
