Family Dispute Leads to Animal Cruelty, Battery Charges Against Suwanee Woman

The suspect and her mother both had injuries from the incident, according to police.

A Suwanee woman has been charged with simple battery and animal cruelty after a domestic incident involving her mother and two animals.

According to Suwanee Police, Megan Leigh Kovach of a Martins Farm Road address was charged after a July 27 incident that also involved her mother.

When the arresting officer arrived, he observed both Kovach and her mother in standing outside, separated from each other, both with injuries to their arms.

The argument began when Kovach told her mother that she was not loading the horse trailer fast enough, according to police. The mother said she began walking away after Kovach began getting loud and pushing her. Then Kovach grabbed the mother's dog by the collar and said she would kill the dog if she walked away.

Then the mother grabbed Kovach's dog and said she would give Kovach back her dog if Kovach would turn her dog loose. The mother said Kovach had the mother's dog lifted off the ground by the collar, and that the dog was yelping and gasping for air.

When the mother was unable to get Kovach to release the dog, the mother struck her daughter on the forearm with a metal rod, which caused Kovach to release the dog.

Kovach initially refused medical treatment, but medical units later were summoned again after Kovach said her arm was hurting. She was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth. Her mother accompanied her.
