Region Title at Stake in Suwanee Showdown

North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge play Friday. Also, Collins Hill is in the race.

There'll be more than Suwanee bragging rights on the line when North Gwinnett hosts Peachtree Ridge on Friday.

The Bulldogs also have a chance to claim at least a share of the Region 7-AAAAAA title that they lost to Norcross a year ago.

Both North and Norcross are 6-1 in region play. But the Bulldogs own the tiebreaker over the Blue Devils because of their 36-17 victory in September.

However, Collins Hill of Suwanee also is 6-1 in region play, and owns a victory over North. The Eagles play at Mill Creek on Friday.

Peachtree Ridge looks good for the playoffs, with a 5-2 region record. (Four teams from each region make the postseason.) Mill Creek has three region losses, but the Lions own a victory over Mill Creek.

Norcross plays Meadowcreek on Friday in its season finale. And if you are thinking tiebreakers, Norcross defeated Collins Hill.

So if Norcross, North and Collins Hill all finish at 7-1, it appears that Region 7-AAAAAA shall determine the top-seeded team for the playoffs, according to GHSA bylaws.

In the latest statewide rankings on ajc.com, North Gwinnett is No. 3, Collins Hill is No. 6, and Peachtree Ridge is No. 10. Norcross is fifth.

The postseason begins Nov. 15, with the state title game on the weekend of Dec. 13-14.

Region 7 teams are matched with Region 5 teams in the GHSA playoff brackets.

The updated schedules for all Suwanee teams are here.
