Artists Go Outdoors Again in Suwanee

The annual Plein Air event makes a spring appearance.

The arts portion of Suwanee's 2012 events schedule cranks up this weekend, as the North Gwinnett Arts Association (NGAA) holds the spring portion of its Plein Air event.

As before, artists of all types will spread out all over town to record various buildings, landscapes, and even people. "Plein Air" is a French term, which means painting in the open air and working directly from the landscape/cityscape as it appears at the moment.

Participating artists will work Saturday and Sunday throughout parks, Town Center, and historic areas within the city using their unique styles to capture scenes as quickly as possible, according to a news release. Also, visitors are able to watch the artists at work.

For instance, Vickie Johnson of the NGAA last fall painted the Creative Clayhouse on Main Street one day, then trees the next day.

Also, the NGAA will set up headquarters during the event on Charleston Market Street, Unit B-6, near City Hall.

Sunday, the event will culminate with a reception at a Town Center restaurant. Artists' work will be judged and also will be for sale.
