Apple iPhone 5 Available Sept. 21

The latest version of the trendy smartphone is rolled out Wednesday.

The hype has become reality. Apple is coming out with the iPhone 5, actually the sixth version of the trendy smartphone that has become the mainstream mobile communications device.

The iPhone 5 will begin preorders Friday (Sept. 14), and will be available Sept. 21. The lowest-priced version will be $199 for 16 GB, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Since the iPhone debuted in 2007, Apple has sold more than 244 million units, and the iPhone and related products accounted for 46 percent of Apple's revenues in the most recent quarter.
