5. Today in History: On this date in 1980, Paul McCartney ended a stay in jail in Tokyo on a marijuana smuggling charge. He had been arrested nine days before when he and his band, Wings, came to Japan for his first tour there since being with the Beatles in 1965. He was caught carrying nearly a half-pound of marijuana, which he assured authorities was for his personal use. However, the amount was large enough to trigger a smuggling charge.
