5. Today in History: On this day in 1963, John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the U.S., was assassinated as he traveled through Dallas in an open-top limousine. As he traveled past the Texas School Book Depository, Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor, killing Kennedy, 46. Vice President Lyndon Johnson, also in the motorcade, was sworn in as president at 2:39 p.m. at Dallas' Love Field.
