Suwanee Resident Raising Funds for Philippines Typhoon Relief

GoFundMe and Patch are teaming to highlight Suwanee area residents' fund-raising efforts. Add your thoughts and information.

A Suwanee resident has her thoughts on people in another part of the world this holiday season -- Philippines typhoon victims.

Posting on gofundme.com, Cecille Evans Wetmore of Suwanee said in part:

"I was raised in Igpalge, Barbaza, Antique (Philippines). Antique (un-tea-key) is located Is the Western Visaya region. It is not easy to get there. Since it is located remotely, the USA and the whole worlds help have not made it to them yet but in meantime there are adults and children that are hungry. Children fight each other for 1 piece of boiled banana. In addition they have a lot of damage to their homes. Roofs of most houses are all but gone due to typhoon Yolanda. As of today, 11/12/13 they still without a power and a little water. I have no idea how they sleep at night. It cost $50.00 per sack of rice. One sack will feed about 100 meal. Once the help from other countries make its way to Antique, I would like to use the leftover money to at least put roof on some of the elders home."

To date (Dec. 5, 2013), she has raised $525 toward her goal of $1,000.
GoFundMe is a Patch partner. Unlike other crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter, GoFundMe focuses more on helping people fund very personal goals. So in addition to traditional charitable causes, you may find someone who is asking for help financing a car payment or paying for a honeymoon.
