Suwanee Restaurant Inspections: Applebee's

How did the eatery on Celebration Drive fare?

Applebee's, the national restaurant chain with an outlet in Suwanee, underwent an inspection in June 2012 by the Gwinnett-Newton-Rockdale Health Departments, which services the counties.

And the outlet on Celebration Drive (formerly Gwinco Boulevard) scored an 87/B. It scored in the 90s/A in previous inspections in 2011.

Among the deficiencies cited were cold-held potentially hazardous foods maintained below 41 degrees -- no time controls/documentation in place.

Also, the person in charge was not aware of the employee health policy, the report said.

Both violations were corrected on-site.

Has the food gotten any better? We use go before and after Basketball games at the church across the street. The few times we went, we were served food that had previously been frozen and thier microwave skills were lacking. For instance, the artichoke dip, which we ordered on two visits was served with a rubbery covering, obviously microwaved, and then left for the server, while they use the microwave for our Quesadillas. Quesadilla on two occasions were still cold inside, and on one occasion, one was still frozen. Guess the microwave can only do one appertizer at a time. When this was mentioned to the server, the response was, a shrug of the shoulder and sorry let me get you another. No thanks, and we havent been back.

We ate there recently on a Saturday evening. We wondered why it was mostly empty and the Outback next door had a waiting line. After eating our meal, we decided the food was tasteless, the steak was tough and the drinks were half ice. Not a good experience, felt like we wasted our money on a bad meal. Sorry we didn't wait for the other restuarant.
