GCPD Arrests Suwanee Robbery Suspect

Rufus Jerome Smith was found in Flowery Branch. Police use Taser to apprehend him.

Gwinnett Police said Tuesday afternoon that they have arrested the man suspected of a recent armed robbery in Suwanee and similar crimes elsewhere in the county.

Rufus Jerome Smith was apprehended at the Tree Park Apartments in Flowery Branch, Gwinnett Police Cpl. Jake Smith said Tuesday.

Officers from Gwinnett Police, the Gwinnett Sheriff's Fugitive Unit and the Hall County Sheriff's Office approached Smith as he was leaving the apartments. He attempted to run from officers and was Tasered, the police statement said.

Smith is in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond. He is believed to be responsible for 10 or more armed robberies. Charges include armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime.
