Suwanee Citizens Can Go 'Behind Scenes' With Police Again

The Citizens Police Academy will hold classes beginning in October.

Suwanee residents can get an up-close look at the police department again soon.

According to a city news release, the Suwanee Police Department again will offer its Citizens Police Academy course, which runs eight weeks. The course begins Tuesday, Oct. 1, and meets on Tuesday from 6:30-9 p.m.

The classes will be held at the police training center, which is at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and I-85.

The program offers participants a better understanding of the day-to-day functions, risks, and experiences of Suwanee police officers, according to the release, Topics will include crime scene processing, traffic stops, building searches, crime prevention, and narcotics identification.

Applications are available on the city website, and a notarized application must be submitted by Sept. 20, 5 p.m. Applicants must be at least 19, and City of Suwanee residents will receive priority placement.
