Two Suwanee men were arrested and jailed Wednesday after being involved in a fight outside a motel that landed another man in the hospital, according to police.

Gregory Morris Payne of a Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road address was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center on Wednesday (Sept. 12) on charges of simple assault and simple battery. He was released on bond later Wednesday.

According to Suwanee Police, Payne and another Suwanee man were arrested after a fight at the Super 8 Motel on Sawmill Road late Tuesday. When Suwanee officers arrived after being summoned by a motel employee, a man was lying on the ground under the lobby overhang of the motel. The man said he thought he had a broken jaw. Payne threw the punch that injured the man, according to police records.

The injured man evidently had come to the motel to visit his estranged wife and his dog. He said he was approached by two men that he had never met, and a verbal altercation ensued.

The injured man told police that the altercation became more heated, and that Payne told him that he would "kick his ass." The injured man then took a swing at Payne. Police records say Payne then punched the man in the jaw, causing him to fall to the ground. The injured man said the other man, identified as Nathan James Mansi, did not strike him.

A medical unit later transported the injured man to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth.

Both men were arrested, handcuffed and transported to the detetion center. Mansi, of a Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road address in Suwanee, was charged with disorderly conduct.
