More New Blood for Suwanee City Council

Miller will succeed McOmber, who opts not to run again.

The Suwanee City Council is about to get another newcomer.

Linnea Miller has an unopposed path to Post 3, as incumbent Kevin McOmber opted not to qualify for a spot on the Nov. 5 ballot. Thus, Miller will become the fourth person since 2010 to break into the five-member (excluding the mayor)Β panel, following Dick Goodman, Doug Ireland and Beth Hilscher.

McOmber, who has been on the council since 2007, said Wednesday that he has "decided to move on.

"I'm pleased with the person (Miller) who has qualified, and getting behind her is the best thing for the community."

McOmber has been involved with Suwanee civic life since 1998. He was a founding member of the Downtown Development Authority, which is designed to boost business efforts.

An engineer by trade, he was project manager for constructing Town Center Park, which has become the city's cultural center.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed it," McOmber said of his time on the council. "It was an opportunity to work with a great group of people."

McOmber will remain in his post through the end of 2013.
