WiFi, Surveillance Cameras Possible for Suwanee Park

Also, city officials may add WiFi at another park.

Suwanee soon may add surveillance cameras and public WiFi for Town Center Park.

City officials have identified C3 Communications as the chief candidate to add cameras to Town Center Park, according to details at a recent City Council work session. The cost would be about $129,000, and City Council would have to approve the matter at a future meeting.

Public WiFi also would be provided at Town Center Park, though the range would not be that of systems used by some commercial providers. For instance, City Manager Marty Allen noted that the system would not be "robust enough" to handle Suwanee Day, which draws 40,000 or so users to Town Center Park each September.

The area of Sims Lake Park near the playground also would have WiFi, Allen said.

Internet access through WiFi is provided by some retailers near Town Center Park, though it is not always strong enough to reach into the park area.

Sims Lake Park's playground area is popular for families with young children. The city recently added shade structures to the playground.
