Suwanee Attorney To Seek City Council Post

Suwanee attorney Beth Hilscher, who has been involved in civic affairs for years, said Wednesday that she intends to seek the vacant City Council post.

Hilscher is eyeing the seat being vacated by Jace Brooks, who is resigning to seek election to the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners.

Hilscher, who has lived in Suwanee for 13 years, is the vice chairman of the city's Downtown Development Authority, a public-private agency that promotes business and development in Old Town and Town Center.

"I've seen a lot of growth (in Suwanee), most of it good and positive," Hilscher said Wednesday. She said that she wants to do her part to see that the growth continues "in a responsible way."

Hilscher, a Georgia State law school grad, has an office in Old Town. She lives in the Ruby Forest subdivision. She never has held an elected office.

No formal election or qualifying dates for the council post have been announced, though the election will be held in July. Brooks' official last day is Thursday.

Currently, the DDA's chief project is trying to establish a national Historic District in Old Town. This is crucial to the eventual completion of the .
