North Gwinnett High School officials acknowledged Wednesday (November 28) that they have approached the City of Suwanee about the school being annexed into the city limits.

Debbie Sharratt, a school spokesperson, confirmed that the school has discussed the move with city officials. The matter is on the agenda for discussion at a City Council workshop in December.

Other school officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

The school, on Level Creek Road at Suwanee Dam Road, currently sits in an unincorporated area outside the city limits.

It has a tradition well beyond the so-called "boom years" of Suwanee, which had a population increase of about 75 percent in the decade of 2001-10. North's graduates include Mayor Jimmy Burnette, who was born in 1952, and former Gwinnett BOC Chairman Wayne Hill.
