Suwanee May Change Name of Gwinco Boulevard

Celebration Drive would be the new name; elected officials to get an update.

Suwanee motorists may want to adjust their GPS devices. A familiar city street may soon get a name change.

Gwinco Boulevard, which connects with both Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Old Peachtree Road near I-85, may get a name change. Suwanee city officials are in favor of it and will discuss it with City Council members at a work session Thursday.

The new name would be Celebration Drive, if approved by council members. That could come as soon as the July 26 council meeting; official business is rarely conducted at work sessions.

The name change is being done in conjunction with the I-85/McGinnis Ferry Road project in Suwanee, which is scheduled to be completed in September. That is under the supervision of Georgia DOT officials.

Special Projects Director Toni Shrewsbury has contacted most businesses on Gwinco Boulevard, according to city documents. Thus the city staff wants to move forward with the street-name change.
