Suwanee Planning an App for Resident, Business Requests

Working with a company called Public Stuff, city officials are planning mobile and desktop versions.

There's not an app for that yet, but Suwanee city officials are working on mobile and desktop interfaces that will add to residents' ability to request services and interact with officials.

Working with publicstuff.com, city officials are developing an interface that will be customized for ease of use for such things as utility problems or maintenance requests. Also, a resident could check to see if a complaint already has been filed about the problem.

Jessica Roth of the city manager's office notes that the platform, which could be rolled out later this summer, will be geared for businesses and residents in Suwanee.

The release will be "measured," with some key components coming out before the entire interface. There will be mobile and desktop versions.

The metro Atlanta community of Woodstock and the Florida capital city of Tallahassee already use Public Stuff for citizen requests and questions.

The Public Stuff Facebook page describes the company thusly:

The PublicStuff vision is to create an online portal and mobile application that allows people to connect directly with their local government in order to keep our elected leaders responsible and accountable to the needs in our local communities.

Whether you want to file a noise complaint, or your local park needs renovating, or that street lamp or pothole, PublicStuff is here to empower you to have a voice 24 hours a day--- not just from 9-5 Monday through Friday.

Aside from requests and inquiries, the app could include a Suwanee events calendar, a "find a park" feature, and a link to the city's YouTube channel.

The new site would not replace the city's current website, but Roth noted that the city site does not have a mobile aspect.
