Suwanee To Recognize Everett Music Barn Owners

Council to commend group for reviving tradition.

Some Suwanee-area residents that helped preserve a local musical tradition will get some recognition from city leaders Tuesday.

Chris Lybeer, who along with the Webb and Gardner families purchased the Everett Music Barn and related property in March, are on the City Council agenda for recognition. Tuesday's meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The three families closed on the 1.1-acre property on Stonecypher Road in March; it had gone up for sale late in 2010 after Roger Everett's death brought a halt to weekly bluegrass gigs that had been played in the barn since the 1960s.

"We wanted to preserve something that was unique and genuine," Lybeer said.

It was the first time the property had ever changed hands. The weekly performances at the barn, which was built by hand in the 1960s with material from a destroyed apartment building in Norcross, resumed in April.
