Suwanee Students To Hold Their Own New Hampshire 'Primary'

Fifth-graders at Riverside Elementary will lead the school through the procedure Tuesday.

Don't tell the students at that they are too young to vote.

The students will be holding their own election Tuesday in conjunction with the New Hampshire primary, led by fifth-graders.

The 200-plus fifth-graders will be doing campaign commercials, displaying signs and holding a mock vote in conjunction with the real GOP primary.

According to Emmy Ligertwood, administrative assistant at the school, each fifth-grade homeroom (there are eight) will select a different GOP candidate to boost. They then will hold campaign signs as other students enter school Tuesday. Also, they will prepare campaign commercials for the regular morning news show on the school's closed circuit TV network.

Then, the real vote, in all classrooms via paper ballot. It is the first time the school has held such an effort.
