Next Stop, Georgia Dome for North Gwinnett

The Bulldogs roll into the title game with a win over McEachern.

For the first time since 2007, North Gwinnett will play for the state football title.

The Bulldogs assured themselves of a trip to the Georgia Dome with a 27-21 victory over McEachern in Powder Springs on Friday.

Running back C.J. Leggett rushed for 292 yards and two touchdowns for North, which led 14-7 at halftime. Leggett's 53-yard touchdown run with 3:17 to play in the third quarter put North ahead to stay.

Holding a 27-21 lead, North defenders tackled McEachern's T.J. Rahming short of a first down at the Indians' 42 to allow the clock to run out.

On Saturday at the Georgia Dome, North will face Gwinnett rival and defending state champion Norcross, which beat Colquitt County on Friday. So Gwinnett is assured of another state title. North defeated Norcross in the regular season in September.

Material from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Gwinnett Daily Post was used in this article.
