Peachtree Ridge Back Runs to Glory

Lions' Atwater leads first week Suwanee superlatives.

In a game of big plays, the efforts of Peachtree Ridge RB Diandre Atwater stood out.

The Lions' running back scored on runs of nine and four yards Saturday in his team's 26-14 season-opening loss to Walton in the Corky Kell Classic.

Atwater, son of former NFL standout Steve Atwater, could not lift his team to victory, though, as Walton got second-half touchdowns on a punt return (89 yards) and an 80-yard run.

Still, his efforts merit recognition as the first Suwanee High School Football Player of the Week for the 2011 season.

Peachtree Ridge has a week off before returning to action on Sept. 2 at Roswell.

Also worth noting was North Gwinnett QB Scott Hosch, who had touchdown passes of 28 and 21 yards in his team's 26-17 loss to McEachern in the Kell Classic. North will be at home Saturday against East St. Louis, Mo.
