Deadline Near For Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Design

Suwanee is known as a hotbed of interest for art and runners, so it bears mentioning that the deadline is nearing for the T-shirt design for the annual Peachtree Road Race.

The deadline for this year’s contest is Feb. 28. Artists and graphic designers are asked to submit their T-shirt designs for the event by that date.

According to a press release, a panel of judges, representing the Atlanta Track Club, the AJC and local graphic artists, will select five finalists. These will be revealed on March 15, the day the online lottery opens for registration for the 2012 race.

The public will then have until April 30 to vote for their favorite T-shirt design at ajc.com/peachtree. The winning design will be revealed on the day of the race, July 4. Organizers said this has been the procedure followed to determine the design of the Peachtree finisher’s shirt since 1995.

“The unveiling of the T-shirt design at the finish of the AJC Peachtree Road Race has become a cherished tradition at the Fourth of July event, and it’s always wonderful to be able to showcase the work of talented artists through the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Design Contest,” Tracey Russell, executive director of the Atlanta Track Club, said in a press release. “The contest also provides a fun way for event participants and Peachtree fans to have a say in what’s featured on the T-shirts.”  

Jessica Ferguson of Kennesaw was the winner of last year’s design. As well as having their design featured on 60,000 AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirts, the winner will receive $1,000. The four runners-up will receive $100. Details of the contest and the entry form can be found at peachtreeroadrace.org/event-information/t-shirt-contest.

Organizers also want to remind runners that registration for the 2012 race opens March 15, through an online lottery at ajc.com/peachtree. Those who want a shot at being one of the 60,000 participants selected for the 43rd running of the race can register for the lottery online at ajc.com/peachtree from 7 a.m. on March 15 to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Organizers said that regardless of the day or time one enters, all individuals and groups who enter the lottery will have an equal chance of being selected for the 2012 race. Entrants will be randomly selected after the lottery closes on March 22. All lottery entrants will be notified by March 26, letting them know whether they were selected for the 2012 event or not.

Searchable results of the selection process also will be posted on peachtreeroadrace.org and ajc.com/peachtree on March 26. Last year, about 951 people from Suwanee were registered for the race.
