It was a week where Suwanee and Gwinnett news went national. To recap:

The Atlanta-based restaurant chain became the focus of a political and religious battle . A Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on Aug. 1 helped the company to record sales nationwide, and a counter-move called Same Sex Kiss Day was held on Friday, Aug. 3.

Jace Brooks, a former Suwanee City Council member, defeated Laurie McClain, a Suwanee accountant, to win the District 1 seat on the Gwinnett Board OF Commissioners The full term begins in 2013. Brooks got roughly 54 percent of the vote.

Big business and millions of dollars in campaign money were not enough to induce metro Atlanta voters to pass the transportation sales tax also known as TSPLOST. More than 60 percent of voters were opposed to it. Public officials in Texas were among those in other areas looking on.

The NFL team that once called Suwanee home kept its ties strong. The Atlanta Falcons put on their annual Friday Night Lights scrimmage at Peachtree Ridge High on Aug. 3.

Paul J. Bennett of Cumming was indicted on homicide charges in connection with the June boating collision on Lake Lanier that killed brothers Jake and Griffin Prince of Buford.
