Will Flooding Hit Suwanee Creek?

A Flood Watch has been extended through Monday evening.

The rainy conditions that disrupted so much activity in Suwanee and Gwinnett over the Fourth of July weekend are hanging around.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch has been issued for the area through Monday evening (July 8). That means conditions are right for flooding -- not surprising, considering the heavy rains in 2013.

The alert reads:

LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING CANNOT BE RULED OUT IN INDIVIDUAL STORMS...HOWEVER...AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF PERSISTENT RAINFALL THE MAIN THREAT WILL BE MORE WIDESPREAD FLOODING OF CREEKS...RIVERS AND LOW-LYING AREAS.

However, the flooding likely won't extend to Suwanee Creek.

A graphic on weather.gov shows that the creek is well below the flood stage of 8 feet. As of Monday, Suwanee Creek was at 1.95 feet, according to the map.

And another area of the same map shows that the rainfall total for 2013 indeed is about 12.6 inches above normal. Through June 30, the Atlanta area total is at 37.32 inches.
